Of all the white varieties from Italy you've never heard of, Timorasso really deserves to be known and tasted. Indigineous to Colli Tortonesi (southeast Piemonte), most producers in the area were ripping out Timorasso in the 1980's and replanting it with Cortese to make Gavi. One man, Walter Massa, is responsible for this grape surviving that rough patch. He saw the incredible potential in the full bodied, high acid wines made from Timorasso, and dedicated his life to preserving its legacy. Fast forward 40 years, and Timorasso is known far and wide for its complexity and ageworthiness. 

Walter Massa's "Derthona" is his flagship Timorasso. Weighty without being rich, this wine balances its round texture with bracing acidity. We think of Timorasso as the Muhammed Ali of white grapes : it floats like a butterfly (weighty fruit and honeyed minerality) and sting like a bee (pronounced acidity)”.
